Gem deposits at Hambantota
The Government had struck gold in an unexpected quarter while preparing the ground- work for the Hambantota Port Project as gem deposits have been unearthed in the land.
The Government Information Department yesterday announced that gem deposits have been found in the twelve and a half acre land earmarked for the Hambantota Port project. The Department announced that the National Gem and Jewellery Authority had called for tenders for the rapid mining of the land for gems. The tender applications will be available at the Authority office at Galle Face Terrace, Colombo3 and the regional office in Matara till 2 p.m. on June 3.
Inspection of the land will be granted on May 29 and 30 and June 1,2 and 3
