May 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka yesterday called on the United Nations to immediately launch an impartial investigation into a ‘leaked’ UN document that contains satellite images of Sri Lanka’s safe zone.

Sri Lanka summoned United Nations Resident Coordinator Neil Buhne to seek an explanation regarding the leaking out of the sensitive UN document to the media.

Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe had told local media that it was not the first time, such kind of sensitive documents of UN were leaked to the media.

“The UN should investigate this incident soon and time has come for it to turn the search light on itself,” the local media said quoting the Minister.

A confidential UN satellite images which showed the formation of some craters and damages to the buildings in the no-fire zone created between 5 February and 19 April had been circulated in the media recently.
