[ad#200×200] President Mahinda Rajapaksa convened an urgent meeting concerning the food supplies to the civilians trapped in the North.
On the President’s immediate directive, more than 40 tons of urgently required food items will be shipped tonight to the civilians trapped in Mullaitivu, said Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Resettlement & Disaster Relief Services. He further said that any future needs shall also be conveyed as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, in another meeting chaired by Basil Rajapaksa, MP and Senior Advisor to HE the President, thrashed out strategies to make way for a convey bringing urgently required food supplies to the civilians affected by fighting between the LTTE and security forces in Mullaitivu district.
Minister of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Rishad Bathiudeen, the Sri Lanka Representative of the ICRC, Sabaragamuwa PC Chief Minister Mahipala Herath, and Commissioner General of Essential Services S. B. Divarathna also participated in the meeting.
The roads to Mullaitivu are still infested with mines, and it was decided to convey the shipment via the sea. The Government Agent of Mullaitivu has accepted 1,801 metric tons food that has been sent to the conflict affected areas in Mullaitivu so far.
