JHU alleges scam to acquire Buddhist land in East

The Jathika Hela Urumaya has complained to the authorities that a racket was underway to illegally acquire Buddhist religious land in the East.

In complaints to the Commissioner of Archaeology and the Lands Ministry, JHU leader Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera alleges certain Muslim and Tamil officers in the provincial council, with support from area politicians, were responsible for this scam.

Several lands in Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee that belong to Buddhist Temples have already been distributed among Muslim and Tamil people, according to the complaint.
