Somawansa re-elected Leader of JVP, Viitha Herath is Information Secretary
Mr. Somawansa Amarasinghe was re-elected as leader of the party at the 5th National Convention of the JVP said a spokesman for the JVP. Mr. Vijitha Herath has been selected to the post of Information Secretary earlier held by Wimal Weerawansa and Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been selected as the Leader of the Parliamentary Group of the JVP, another post held by Mr. Wimal Weerawansa.
The 5th National Convention of the JVP unanimously elected Mr. Somawansa Amarasinghe as the Leader of the party and 24 have been elected to the Central Committee. The Central Committee which met after the conclusion of the National Convention selected 7 Members for the Political Bureau and appointed them for the different posts of the party.
Accordingly Mr. Somawansa Amarasinghe in addition to being the Leader has been appointed as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, the post earlier held by Mr. Vijitha Herath. The Secretary is Mr. Tilvin Silva and Mr. Vijitha Herath is appointed the Information Secretary. Mr. Chandrasena Wijesinghe is Secretary of Educational Affairs while Mr.Lal Kanthe is Administrative Secretary. Mr. G. Kularathne is Organizing Secretary and Mr. Anura Dissanayake is Financial Secretary and the Leader of the Group of Parliamentarians of the party.
