Villagers set fire to houses over Kahawatte double murder

A local politician’s house was among three houses set on fire in Kahawatte by villagers who are suspicious that the politician’s brother was involved in the recent double murder. The politician’s brother was questioned and released earlier by the police, but was later taken into CID custody.

The mother and daughter were murdered on January 31.

Two men and one woman have been arrested in connection to the tense situation that erupted in Kahawatta yesterday (March 7). The CID is conducting further investigations into the incident.
