Sri Lankan military ceremonially ends the war with LTTE

May 20, Colombo: The Sri Lankan military today ceremonially ended the war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) at Mullaitivu beach area.

Defence sources said the Army formally silenced their guns this afternoon in a military ceremony, headed by Major General Jagath Jayasuriya and in the presence of commanders of all units.

An emotional two-minute silence was observed by all to respect their fallen heroes before the ceremony. Forces fired MBT and MBRL guns towards the Mullaitivu Sea marking the end of the war and the triumph over the terrorism.

Sources said the entire area was filled with the jubilant voices of the security personnel soon after the completion of the special ceremony.

Vanni Commander Major General Jagath Jayasuriya appreciated the great service of each and every soldier including the comrades over the past three years.
