Galle Road has been closed for traffic from Colpetty Junction to Galle Face Roundabout due to a protest against the anti-Islam film produced in the US.

Heavy traffic congestion has been reported along the Galle Road from Bambalapitiya due to the protestors marching towards the US Embassy in Colombo.

Meanwhile US Embassy has decided to close to the public early today in anticipation of the protests in Colombo by Muslims.

The Embassy has notified U.S. citizens visiting Sri Lanka that it will be closed at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 24, due to planned demonstrations in the city.

Protests were held in several parts of the island including in Colombo last week against the amateur film, calling for its creators to be hanged.

Hundreds of Muslims marched towards the US Embassy in Colombo on Wednesday and after prayers on Friday, carrying signs and banners that read, “Ban anti-Islamic film” and chanting, “Hang the producer and director of the film.”

The Ministry of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affair on Sunday said steps will be taken to ban the controversial movie “Innocence of Muslims,” from being aired in Sri Lanka.
