[ad#200×200]Troops of Task Force 1 now advancing towards Paranthan following the victory in Pooneryn have captured one of LTTE airstrips located in the Nivil area, Pooneryn this afternoon, the military said.
Defense Ministry said that according to the sources in the filed, the airstrip is about 200m in length and made by demarcating a strip of the B-69 Pooneryn-Paranthan main road.
Sources say the strip is believed to be used as an emergency landing strip by the LTTE.
Meanwhile troops have established their forward boundaries about 14 km west from Paranthan and engaged in clearing operations at present, defense sources said.
