[ad#200×200]The Cabinet decided today to ban the awarding of honorary doctorates and titles such as Desha Bandu by dubious organizations, as recommended by a Cabinet Sub Committee headed by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake. According to its recommendations, only recognised universities will be allowed to award honorary degrees in future. Also honorary titles, such as Desha Bandu, could only be given by the President in future.
