[ad#200×200]Action will be taken against petrol filling station owners who do not requisition sufficient stocks of petrol and create problems for motorists who come to purchase petrol, Chairman Ceylon Petroleum Corporation; Asoka Thoradeniya said yesterday (22).
The CPC was supplying sufficient stocks of petrol to the filling stations to meet the demand of the motorists at Rs. 122 per litre but some owners of filling stations were not placing orders for the normal quantity of petrol to create an artificial shortage even though there was a demand at that price, he pointed out.
Some filling stations managed by the Indian Oil Company (IOC) had reduced the price of a liter of petrol to Rs.100 but the filling stations coming under the CPC are reported to be selling petrol at the old rate. Queues of vehicles were seen at the IOC filling stations over the last several days but some of the CPC filling stations had put up boards saying petrol stocks were over.
Minister of Labour Mervin Silva who is also the patron of the SLFP trade unions at the CPC said if there were any filling station owners who refused to sell petrol motorists should at once complain to the authorities and action will be taken against such persons.
