What happened to the large amount of gold and foreign assets that belonged to the LTTE but was taken over by the government when tiger leader prabakaran was killed in May this year asked UNP Parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera.
Making a special statement in Parliament today (8th) Mr. Perera said media had reported that a large haul of gold was found after the tiger leader Prabakaran was killed in the North and Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP who is under detention had revealed a large amount of foreign assets belonging to LTTE. He said the government should present a report on this soon.
Mr. Perera said information regarding 600 foreign bank accounts and 20 ships that belonged to the LTTE has been published in the media. Stating that only one of these ships was destroyed by SL Navy he asked what had happened to other ships. He asked the government to immediately present a report on this.
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake responding said the intelligence sections are still carrying out investigations. He said a large number of ships that belonged to the LTTE were destroyed by the SL Navy and investigations are being carried out regarding the rest of the ships and details of these investigations would be presented to Parliament as soon as they were completed.
