Sri Lanka’s Media Ministry call on journalists to declare assets

Sri Lanka’s Mass Media and Information Ministry has called on every journalist in the country to submit a declaration of their assets by April 30, 2010.

The Ministry has stated that under the terms of the 1988 Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Act, journalists also have to declare their assets. Therefore, the chairmen, editors, and members of the respective editorial staff have to submit a declaration of their assets.

A letter sent by the Ministry signed by its Secretary to the heads of the media industry has requested that the declarations be handed over to the Mass Media and Information Ministry by April 30.

The Mass Media and Information Ministry is currently under the purview of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
