Sri Lanka comeback stuns Aussies in Melbourne

Australia has set a target of 240 for Sri Lanka to chase in the one-day international opener at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Wednesday.

Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga took an early wicket of Australia’s Shane Watson after Australia won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the three-match series.

Brad Haddin’s 40 and Michael Hussey’s unbeaten 71 have steadied the hosts to post a fighting target for the Sri Lankans.

Sri Lankan bowlers have done an impressive feat with Thisara Perera’s haul of 5 wickets. Malinga, Kulasekara and Randiv have grabbed one each.

The hosts are without their bereaved captain Ricky Ponting who is attending his grandmother’s funeral in Tasmania. Michael Clarke is leading the Aussies during Ponting’s absence. – colombopage-
