Civil Defence Force Officer honored for seizing the Tiger mastermind behind bomb blasts in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence has honored a Civil Defence Force (CDF) officer who had arrested the Tamil Tiger mastermind behind many bomb blasts including the train blast at Wellawatte on June 04.

On the instruction of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the Department of Civil Defence has promoted the woman soldier H. Nandawathee to the rank of Warden with immediate affect. She has also been awarded 50,000 rupees for her exemplary behavior.

Ms. Nanadawathi arrested Jatheesan Balasubramaniyam who had attempted escape into Wanni at Irattaperiyakulama roadblock in Vavuniya, after exploding a bomb targeting a commuter train last week. Investigations have revealed that the suspect had involved in many attacks on civilians in the South.
