Another Sri Lankan parliamentarian goes to jail

May 06, Gampaha: The Attanagalla Magistrate Courts today ordered to remand the ruling party parliamentarian Sarana Gunawardhana over the recent abduction of a twelve-year-old boy at Weeragula in Gampaha.

When the case related to this incident was heard this morning the Attanagalla Magistrate I.P.D Liyanage remanded the MP until the 11th of this month.

MP Gunawardana, who evaded the arrest order by the Courts few weeks ago surrendered to the Attanagalla Courts this morning through his lawyers.

Earlier the Courts rejected the expected bail application of the ruling party parliamentarian presented by his lawyers.

MP Gunawardena and three of his supporters have allegedly fired in the air and abducted the 12-year-old student after beating his father at Weeragula in Gampaha.

This was the second ruling party parliamentarian arrested by the same Courts within a two days time.

The Attanagalla Magistrate Courts yesterday remanded the National Freedom Front MP Piyasiri Wijenayaka over the killing of a Marxist party supporter at Veyangoda.
