According to the available information 2 civilians were killed while 20 more suffered injuries due to the explosion in the bus, bearing number cp HG 7503 plying from Waththegama to Kandy. The explosion occurred near the Teachers’ Training School in Polgolla. More than 20 civilians were onboard when the bomb exploded.
Kandy hospital sources said 12 with injuries have already been admitted to the hospital following the explosion. Few victims were admitted to the Katugasthota hospital.
A Tamil suspect has been taken into custody with connection of the bomb explosion. The suspect who had trigged the remote control devise was seen running after the bus and civilians, who saw him running, chased, apprehended and handed over him to the police.
The suspect was in possession of a wire code and a bottle of poison say police sources.
