The controversial Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Sarath Fonseka is to retire with effect from Monday, November 16, say reports. General Fonseka retires after 40 years of military service.
Sources say that President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge had sent a reply on Saturday (Nov. 14) to General Fonseka’s request for retirement. The letter had stated that action would be taken immediately to facilitate the Generals retirement, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshall Roshan Gunatileke is likely to be appointed Chief of Defense Staff.
