Karuna Amman forms a new political party in Sri Lanka

[ad#200×200] 21st Dec: The leader of the Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal party (TMVP) and parliamentarian Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman has formed a new party named as Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Koddani (TMVK).

According to the sources the new party was a clear result of the crisis between Karuna and Chief Minister Chandrakanthan (Pillayan) factions existed between the two sides for long time.

Sources of the new party said MP Muralitharan wanted to change his former party name to drop the Tiger part from its English version of Tamil People’s Liberation Tigers (TMVP) but couldn’t do it due to this crisis.

This situation resulted in the new party, sources said.

Following the breakaway of its leader MP Muralitharan the TMVP party hopes to fill the vacancy by appointing Eastern Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan for the post.
