[ad#200×200]The newly constructed 300 megawatt Kerawalapitiya Thermal Power Plant will be ceremoniously opened on December 7 under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The power plant, built at a cost of US $ 300 million, will commence operations by generating 200 megawatts this year and will expand to 300 megawatts within a year. The price of an electric unit generated in Kerawalapitiya plant is estimated at 20 rupees.
Sri Lanka’s electricity demand is growing by 8% annually and the CEB decided to construct the Kerawalapitiya plant to meet the demand, he added.
