[ad#200×200]Two LTTE assault boats which were spotted off the Pooneryn coast last night (29)were attacked and destroyed by the Sri Lanka Navy, defence sources said.
The elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) had detected the suspicious movement of two assault boats moving close to the coast from Pooneryn to Kalmunai point (K-point) around 11 pm.
Having confirmed that these were LTTE boats, the Navy had launched a surprise attack destroying both vessels.
SBS reports reveal that there were 8 LTTE cadres on board and confirmed that all were killed in the attack. A search operation has been launched in the area, Ministry sources said.
