LTTE supporters attack Chinese embassy in London

LONDON: After Indian and Sri Lankan embassies it was the turn of China to face the ire of LTTE sympathisers with some 150 of them carrying flags and chanting slogans attacked the mission of the Communist nation.

Supporters of banned Tamil Tigers attacked the Chinese Embassy here yesterday and smashed up many windows of the office as they tried to enter inside the building, police said on Thursday. Three protesters were arrested but later released on bail.

The violent demonstrators, carrying flags of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, went to the Chinese Embassy in busy Portland Place in central London.

Two days ago, the LTTE demonstrators blockaded the Indian High Commission building paralysing the work of the embassy. Earlier they had separated the bust of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru from its pedastal next to the India House.

The LTTE supporters have been taking law in their hands and targetting various missions demanding ceasefire between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE.

The demonstrators, yesterday tried to enter the Chinese embassy by force and were pushed back by the police. Thereafter they became violent and started throwing missiles to smash up dozens of windows of the embassy.
