Scores of terrorists were reported killed and many injured when troops of the 58 Division pushed back LTTE offensive elements moving towards the military forward defences North of Iranapalai, at the Mullaittivu battlefront today (March 25).
Infantrymen of 7th Sinha Regiment (SR), 8th Gajaba Regiment(GR) and 20th Gajaba Regiment(GR) engaged intense small arms fire at identified LTTE pockets, forcing terrorists to flee in total disarray leaving behind dead cadres. Over a dozen LTTE bodies were observed lying left at the battlefront following heavy fighting that ensued in the area since 5.30a.m., security sources said. Sporadic fighting is continuing at the time of reporting while troops lay pursuit on LTTE concentrations ahead of the military defences.
According to intercepted LTTE communication, 4 senior terrorists were reported killed including Kadal, Vardhan Anna, Sooriyan and Eelavan during the confrontations.
