Moves to introduce code of conduct for TV ads

The Cultural Affairs Ministry, on the President’s initiative, is framing legislation to introduce a code of conduct for television advertisements, said Cultural Affairs Minister Piyasiri Wijenayake.

Wijenayake addressing of meeting after opening the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna’s Kandy district office in Kandy, alleged that certain television advertisements corrupt young minds.

The JVP is betraying the country and its people by joining hands with the UNP and foreign forces and certain NGOs to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka through falsehood, the Minister said. The responsibility of defeating these anti-national forces has fallen on the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna led by Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, he said. Wijenayake said his front (party) had joined the Government because the President was a patriotic and capable leader who could steer the country towards development and progress. The results of the Central and Uva Provincial Council elections proved the wrong decisions taken by the JVP. He said the JVP was trying to sabotage Government efforts to build a just and peaceful society by investigating students to conduct protest campaign on streets.
