[ad#200×200]Sea tigers launched a cluster of attack craft to confront the units of the Sri Lanka Navy’s Special Boat Squadron (SBS) and the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) which were patrolling west of Walaipadu around 1100 hrs today (18th September 2008).
During the confrontation, Sri Lanka Navy destroyed three (03) large sea tiger attack craft and seven (07) small attack craft killing over 26 sea tigers. Four (04) sea tiger attack craft were badly damaged during the attack.
Two Sri Lanka Navy sailors were also injured during the confrontation.
The success of this attack bears testimony to the effectiveness of the Sri Lanka Navy’s latest innovation, the small fast attack craft which is being effectively put to deadly use against the enemy by the RABS and the SBS, the elite boat squadrons of the Navy. The 100th small fast attack craft was ceremonially unveiled by Secretary of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa accompanied by Navy Commander Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, the pioneering force behind the small attack craft concept, at a function held at SLNS Gemunu.
