Sri Laka President set to name small Cabinet soon

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga said last night that the new UPFA cabinet would be named in the next few days. The President will start work on the cabinet of ministers tonight, he said.

While the last Cabinet consisted of 51 cabinet ministers, 39 non cabinet Ministers and 19 deputy ministers President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as other leaders of the Government promised to appoint a smaller cabinet while campaigning for this election.

Meanwhile, a jubilant Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva who had come first in the UPFA list in Badulla, polling 141,990, said no party or a politician has ever won in Badulla by such a large margin.

This victory is significant in that Badulla is a multi religious, multi ethnic district and I have been able to unite all of them under the UPFA flag for the first time.

The other important factor is that voters in Badulla have given the UPFA a 2/3 mandate by electing 6 members out of 8, which is special, Minister De Silva told Daily Mirror.
