Support government to fulfill people’s aspirations, President tells Sri Lanka opposition parties

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today requested all the opposition parties in the country to support the government to fulfill aspirations of the people.

Addressing the ruling party, United People’s Freedom Alliance first post-war International Labour Day rally today at the Town Hall, the President assured that his government is committed to develop the country and pledged to work hard to meet the public needs.

After fighting a war for 30 years the country has overcome the biggest obstacle and now the path is open for development, the President said. The government will continue to bring greater relief to the working people and ensure their participation in the tasks of economic development, he added.

Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathne addressing the rally said the government is committed to enhance the livelihood of the working people disregarding their ethnicity, cast or religion. The government has taken number of measures for the welfare of working class during the past few years, the Prime Minister said calling for the country’s workforce to extend their complete support to the government to lead the country towards development.

Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Gamini Lokuge, Douglas Devananda, Wimal Weerawansa, Western province Governor Alevi Moulana, and union leaders also addressed the massive rally.
