The United National Party (UNP) should hand over its leadership to Hambantota district parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa, the son of former President Ranasingha Premadasa, said Gampaha district MP John Amaratunga.
Sajith Premadasa is the only person capable of leading the party on the lines of his late father former President Ranasinghe Premadasa who was loved and respected by the masses, the UNP Parliamentarian said.
President Premadasa, during his time embarked on several projects that benefited the common man. The housing project for the lower income groups was one such. However, since 1994 every successive government had failed to continue with such programmes to alleviate poverty in the country, claimed Mr. Amaratunga when he addressed a gathering at Raddolugama to commemorate the former President’s death anniversary.
Mr. Amaratunga also said that the government has still failed to start any major development projects to benefit the masses.
