Six individuals including three army soldiers were arrested while engaged in illegal excavations in search of hidden treasures. Police said the suspects were arrested at a land in Kelegama, Thambuththegama last night following information received from area residents.

Five of the suspects are from Gampaha while the other is a resident of Eppawala, according to police who had also seized the double cab in which they had arrived.

The suspects are to be produced before the Thambuththegama Magistrate’s Court today (28).
