India all out 146

Aug 18th, 2008

Some spirited hitting by last pair P.P. Ohja (16 not out) and Munaf Patel (15) saw India reach 146 before ‘Mystery Man’ Ajantha Mendis (3 for 21 off 9 overs) bowled the latter on the last ball of the 26th over.

India chose to bat first after skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss in the first of 5 One Day International series with Sri Lanka at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium, but were on the backfoot from the first over when Chaminda Vaas bowled Gautham Gambhir.

Muthiah Muralitharan (3 for 37) and Nuwan Kulasekera (2 for 23) with good support from Vaas, Thilina Thushara and Sanath Jayasuriya (who bowled 5 overs conceding just 9 runs) put paid to any Indian hopes of a fight back.
